Experience the Taste of Chile
Wednesday, April 28, 2009

On a beautiful spring night on Tuesday, April 28, guests flocked from Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware to enjoy an evening of authentic Chilean cuisine at the University and Whist Club in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Chilean and American Chamber of Commerce (CACC) presented their 4th annual "Experience the Taste of Chile" dinner to a buzzing room filled with fruit importers, wine connoisseurs, international businessmen and women, and many more.

Our featured speaker, Lori Tieszen, executive director of Wines of Chile USA, informed the audience of the U.S.’s position as the second largest consumer of wine, and discussed the impact these strong ties have in both countries.

"Our annual dinner is significant for the CACC as well as the industry. It is a time when we all get together to celebrate another successful year of commercial trade, and take the time to appreciate the flavors of Chile," says Sheryl Rothberg, executive director of the Chilean and American Chamber of Commerce. "Even in this tough economic environment, this year presented the best turnout we’ve had in four years. It speaks wonders to the strength of this industry and the men and women involved in it."

The evening began with a wine reception sponsored by Casa LaPostolle, one of Chile’s most renowned wineries, and continued with a three-course menu showcasing Chilean gourmet products. The meal started with a fresh salad featuring Chilean avocado oil, mandarin oranges, and edible flowers, moved on to the entrée including a savory crab cake stuffed with Chilean Haas avocados, and ended with a "Dulce de Leche" flan with a caramelized pear.

The Greater Philadelphia region has become Chile's gateway into the U.S. market with 65% of all Chilean fruit imports arriving through our Delaware River waterfront. Ranked 17th among the world's leading food exporting countries, Chile has become a major player in the global food arena. Chile supplies more than 150 countries around the world with food and beverages, and is predicted to be among the top 10 food exporters by 2010.
